Kitsuke (Kimono Dressing) Courses by Kimono Creations Academy

Keeping with its slogan of "Dressing Up from Within," Kimono Creations offers classes that help Japanese women overseas, from beginners to professionals, to dress up casually--yet more beautifully--in kimono. A variety of different curriculums are offered, teaching everything from basic to advanced techniques of wearing kimono, as well as essential kimono manners and etiquette, all within a short period of time. Classes are given at various times of the day on different days of the week, so you can choose the schedule that suits your lifestyle. At the completion of each course you will have mastered the knowledge and skills outlined in the syllabus. Fun programs and a trial course are also available for foreigners who wish to learn about this exciting aspect of Japanese culture.

Beginner's Class:YUKATA (cotton Kimono)

Learn how to wear the basic kimono quickly and easily.
Fee: $40/hr(There is a rental fee of $10 for used yukata, obi and accessories. You can use your own, as well.)

Purpose
In three easy lessons you'll master the technique of wearing yukata individually. You'll even acquire the skills needed to dress others in yukata!

Syllabus

  1. A brief explanation of kimono. Learn how to wear yukata and obi (butterfly bow). Wear yukata using a single string to keep the desired length and tuck the yukata up. Tie the obi into a bow at the front, and then slide it around to position in the rear.
  2. Learn ways of wearing yukata beautifully and smartly to suit your figure. Learn the techniques that suit you. Learn other, more advanced techniques.
  3. Dress others in yukata and obi.
    Dressing others helps you better understand the world of kimono.
    By serving as a model for others, you can physically learn the tightness of the string and how to dress others more comfortably.


Intermediate Course
Learn how to wear komon (kimono with a repeated, small pattern) and furisode (long-falling-sleeve kimono) individually, and to dress others.

Advanced Course
Special techniques of wearing kimono.

$70/hr


Professional Course
Purpose: Learn the essential skills required of a kimono specialist.
Syllabus Period costume, bridal kimono, maiko dress, geisha dress, ancient Japanese ceremonial dress, bridal makeup, history of kimono, etc.


Kimono Stylist Course
Modern arrangements, applications and decorations.


Kimono Trial Course
Purpose Learn about the Japanese culture through kimono.
Syllabus Photograph yourself in kimono. Experience the arts of tea ceremony, flower arranging, etc.


Kimono & Dance Course
Purpose Learn the techniques of wearing kimono in a fun setting.
Syllabus Wear kimono and dance to various types of music.


All courses are available in Japanese and English.
If requested, you can take a test and upon passing receive an official license from the Japan Kimono Association.

You can also take private lessons on subjects of interest to you. If necessary, we can visit your residence or place of work to give lessons (reservations required).
From $50, excluding transportation fees.
